Century Boat assets still for sale

KENNESAW, Ga. — Negotiations for the sale of Century Boats did not result in a sale, according to a recent release from Yamaha Motor Corporation. However, Yamaha remains interested in selling Century’s assets, either in whole or in part.

“We had been in negotiations with entities interested in acquiring Century, but they did not lead to a sale,” Dean Burnett, vice president of Yamaha Marine Group, said in the release. “We want to be sure the industry knows the assets of Century are available.”

Yamaha discontinued production of Century Boats in December 2009 to focus on its core operations. The company purchased the Panama City-based boat builder in 1995 as part of a strategic plan to grow market share for its outboard motors in the offshore category.

According to Yamaha, annual sales for Century peaked in 2007 at more than 1,000 boats annually.
