In brief: Lake Tahoe Boat Inspections, ABBRA, American Boat and Yacht Council

As a reminder to boaters prior to the July 4th weekend, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency sent out a release with details on Lake Tahoe’s enhanced watercraft inspections — part of a new Blue Boating program. The program will inspect for aquatic invasive species; give tips on clean boating, bilge cleaning and sewage management; promote awareness of the 600-foot no wake zone and noise rules; and provide a Blue Boating certification sticker to all motorized boats on Tahoe. An annual fee for a Tahoe-Only boat will range from $20-$60, depending on horsepower, with the most common boats in the $30-$40 range. The annual fee for boats that visit other lakes throughout the year (Tahoe In-and-Out) will range from $30-$125. For more information on the program, go to tahoeboatinspections.com.

The American Boat Builders & Repairers Association (ABBRA), in partnership with the Marine Systems Training Center (MSTC), is offering its Marine Service Management course in November, according to a joint release. The course is scheduled for Nov. 3–6 at the MSTC in Thomaston, Maine. “We feel this course is the start of a great relationship between our two associations, and a great opportunity for our members to have convenient access to high quality training,” Tuesdi Woodworth, director of MSTC, said in the release.

The American Boat and Yacht Council recently reported that starting in late July, the primary method of accessing the newest edition of the Standards and Technical Information Reports for Small Craft will be the new WebSTIR; an enhanced 24/7 online electronic format. All ABYC members will have unlimited access to WebSTIR on the “Members Only” side of the ABYC website as part of their annual membership fee. According to the group, the decision was made after analyzing multiple factors including: standards delivery trends across industries and around the globe; set-up, printing, and processing costs for both paper and CD versions; and what ABYC calls “our environmental obligation to support and promote an eco-conscious business model.” Both the paper manual and CD version of the standards will remain available for purchase at an initial annual fee of $69.95 plus shipping and processing (s/p).
