NAVASSA, N.C. — The U.S. Marine boatyard in Navassa, which was shut down in October 2008, is for sale, according to a report from Wilmington’s Star-News.
Brunswick said it was mothballing the facility in 2008, resulting in 270 lost jobs.
Brunswick is asking $20 million for the facility. The price had been reduced from $28 million “for quick sale,” according to a sales flier.
The sale is being handled by Barry Bowling of CB Richard Ellis in Raleigh. He also is representing Brunswick in the sale of its Swansboro boat-building facility.
“To realize the value, another boat builder would likely be the buyer – for the ways the buildings are laid out and the deepwater access,” Bowling told the paper. “We’ve had some interest from parties outside the U.S. for an East Coast facility.”
