KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Brunswick Corp. has put its idled Sea Ray Boats production plant at Forks of the River Industrial Park up for sale, but the company plans to keep its other Knoxville-area plants running, according to a report from the Knoxville News Sentinel. The asking price for the facility is $6.6 million.
“We’ve been working hard to take fixed costs out of our operations, and we can’t afford to have assets like this just sitting idle,” Brunswick spokesman Dan Kubera told the paper.
Sale of the Riverview Plant will not affect Brunswick’s Knoxville Plant, also at Forks of the River, or its facility in Vonore, Kubera said. The combined work force at those operations is 730. At year-end 2008, Brunswick employed about 1,500 people in the Knoxville area.
In January 2009, Brunswick mothballed the Riverview Plant, laying off 300 workers. That spring, it also furloughed 240 workers at the Knoxville Plant for three months.
