Viking Life-Saving Equipment, the global manufacturer of safety equipment for the maritime, offshore and fire industries, achieved all-time-high sales in excess of 1.1 billion DKK or over $200 million in 2009, the company reported in a recent statement. Up over 6 percent from 2008, the company’s profit also improved compared with last year. Viking attributed the record performance to an increased focus on cost reduction and working capital. Despite pressure on margins and the establishment of new subsidiaries and servicing stations, the tightened cost controls enabled the company to maintain its momentum. At the same time, a decrease in capital tied up in inventory and debtors resulted in a significant reduction in the interest bill. The company also noted that, with the acquisition of Colorado-based fire suit producer Quest Enterprises, Inc., it is “well on the way to building a strong bastion in the U.S. market.”
