Colorado-based boat dealership and service operation Cañon Marine, Inc. opened a second location in Colorado Springs on Oct. 10, it reported in a recent statement. Dave Gouveia, president of Cañon Marine, said the company has over 300 customers from Colorado Springs who have driven 60 miles to his Cañon City location to have their boat serviced in the past. The Colorado Springs location of Cañon Marine is at 3320 N. Hancock.

Yamaha WaterCraft is celebrating the recent launch of its mobile phone services with a mobile sweepstakes that provides a chance to win weekly prizes and a 2010 Yamaha VX Cruiser. Yamaha’s mobile services enable consumers to receive Yamaha boat or WaveRunner mobile alerts with the latest news, product info, promotions and incentives, new accessories and more right on their mobile phones, the company explained. The Yamaha Mobile Sweepstakes ends December 16 when Yamaha draws the mobile number of a winner who will win the 2010 Yamaha VX Cruiser grand prize. The weekly prize winners will be randomly selected each week. To enter, consumers can opt in to Yamaha’s mobile services, either through the link on the Yamaha Web site, www.yamaha-motor.com, or by texting the word WAVE to 70734 to subscribe to Yamaha’s WaveRunner mobile services, or text the word BOAT to 70734 to subscribe to Yamaha’s Boat mobile services.

Capt. Ted Lund — former editor of saltwater fishing publication, Salt Water Sportsman — is launching a new charter fishing destination for Over Under Sportfishing in Key West, Fla. Lund, an experienced light-tackle and charter captain whose clients have set 27 International Game Fish Association World Records and scored numerous flats and offshore tournament wins, is also handling public relations and marketing for the OU brand, he reported. The Key Largo-based operation owns an interest in Mirage Sport Fishing Boats, based in Gainesville, Fla., and Lund will handle public relations and consult on design with that company as well. Over Under Sportfishing currently serves the Bahamas, Florida, as well as Maryland, New Jersey and North Carolina. The addition of the Southernmost City to Over Under’s network brings their total of charter destinations to nine. Over Under Key West is located at the five-star Key West Harbor Yacht Club, on Stock Island.

World Series MVP and boater Dave Stewart is to be the keynote speaker for the 38th Annual Marina Recreation Association (MRA) Educational Conference and Trade Show, the association reported in a recent statement. The conference will be held in Harrah’s, South Lake Tahoe, Nov. 3-5. “His journey from raw-talent rookie to ultimate success at the top of the game gives Stewart a unique insight into the value of persistence and hard work in good times and bad,” according to conference organizers. The MRA is an association of marina owners, operators and trade members throughout the Western States, Baja California and Hawaii. Construction of the new marina in downtown Stockton, Calif. is complete and scheduled to open in November pending the City Council’s approval of an operator’s agreement, Bellingham Marine reported in a recent statement. The marina located along the Stockton Channel features yacht moorage and space for permanent as well as visiting boaters. Six main piers – three side tie docks and 3 main arms accommodating boats from 50 feet to 80 feet – replace the city’s original marina, which was dilapidated and in needed of an overhaul, the company stated. Bellingham Marine supplied the docks from is plant in Dixon, Calif. A new promenade links the marina and nearby public destinations, including a new sports arena and ballpark. Two, side tie docks on the north side of the basin, provide 878 feet of moorage for transient boats and access for individuals wishing to travel to local sporting events by water, the company stated. A third transient dock, measuring 520 feet in length, provides direct access to shopping, local parks, and other attractions. The marina features forty-eight 50-foot slips, twelve 60-foot slips, and six 80-foot slips. Provisions for utilities including potable water, power, cable, and phone service are available at each slip. Potable water and power is available along the side tie docks. Restroom and shower facilities are provided on the south side of the basin. A fabric roof system installed over the marina’s 50 foot slips adds architectural style and provides shelter, the company stated.

The Powerboat P1 World Championship has reached its largest ever global television audience in 2009 with each of the eight stand-alone preview and race programs going to more than 273 million potential homes across six contents, an increase of over 125 million households in just two years, organizers reported in a recent statement. The race programs, shot, produced and distributed by U.K.-based Greenlight Television, were also packaged into race weekend news feeds available via satellite for download. Over 40 broadcasters, producers and distributors accessed the new footage that reached an additional 200 million potential homes around the globe in 2009. Recently in the U.S., the Mav TV network added another 7 million viewers. In total, worldwide TV for the 2009 Powerboat P1 season was transmitted for 1,634 hours.
