BoatU.S. is seeking entries for its national Recreational Boating Access Award. Nominations are due October 1. The award will honor an individual, group, government body, business or non-profit organization that has succeeded in preserving or improving public waterway access. Judges will look at four criteria: First, the challenges faced in retaining or increasing access in an area; Second, the direct impact or measurable results of the solution; Third, the level of success in increasing awareness of the issue in a community and; Fourth, “repeatability,” or the ability to take the successful approach and adopt it in other areas. Examples of solutions could include creative public/private partnerships, changes in land use planning or permitting processes, tax incentives, legislation or public ballots, publicity or public education. International shrinkwrap supplier Dr. Shrink is taking its Shrinkwrap University to the International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition and Conference (IBEX) in Miami, Fla. This free, day-long session will take place on October 15 starting at 8:30 am at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Shrinkwrap University will include classroom discussions on marketing, insurance, business tips from a CPA and safe operation of the heat tool. Participants will experience hands-on shrinkwrap installation training and wrap boats in the afternoon. Lunch will be served to all students. Marine Marketers of America has issued a call for entries for its second annual Marine Marketers national awards program, designed to recognize outstanding performance in the marine marketing field. The 2009 program includes eight categories of entry including National Magazine Ads, National Magazine Ads/Series, Web Advertising (banners), Product Literature and Press Kits, along with three all-new categories including Newsletters, E-mail Promotion/Blasts and Marketing Innovation. The competition is open to any company or organization producing marine-industry marketing work from the period September 2008 – September 2009. Deadline for submission is Oct. 2.

On September 28, Congresswoman Candice Miller will speak on the topic of “Green and Clean Marinas: The perfect balance of environment and economics in Michigan” at a special open house at MacRay Harbor in Harrison Township, Mich. In addition, media and guests will learn about the greening of Michigan’s marinas, meet Michigan Clean Marina Program leaders, and tour two certified Michigan clean marinas, MacRay and Belle Maer Harbors, which are located side-by-side on Lake St. Clair. The program will run from 1 – 4 p.m. The Michigan Clean Marina Program has certified 32 marinas and harbors as Michigan Clean Marinas. China General Plastics Corporation of America (CGPCA) has completed the move of its corporate headquarters to Mira Loma, Calif., according to Jeff Post, vice president and general manager of CGPCA, also known as Enduratex. Post said the move will allow the company “to provide our customers with improved operational systems and technologies which will help facilitate a greater expedition of distribution.” Its toll-free phone numbers and Internet addresses will remain the same. In addition, its warehouse facilities also will be relocated. Enduratex provides vinyl coated fabrics to the automotive, hospitality, marine, and healthcare industries.

KVH Industries, Inc., (Nasdaq: KVHI) recently awarded its annual Sales Representative of the Year Award to Norm MacLeod, vice president of sales at ComMar Sales LLC in Tiverton, R.I. Among the reasons MacLeod was chosen are his commitment to KVH, strong sales performance, and consistently high dealer satisfaction ratings, according to the company.

Poly-Planar, a manufacturer of stereo systems for spa and marine environments, will be moving to a new, larger office/warehouse facility located near BWI airport in Hanover, Md. The move will be complete by Sept. 25. The new physical address will be: Poly-Planar Group, LLC, 1352 Charwood Road, Suite D, Hanover, MD 21076. Telephone and fax numbers will remain the same. Poly-Planar said its move to this expanded facility will enable the company to better serve their customers needs in the future.

The non-profit BoatU.S. Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water recently laboratory tested 20 boat cleaners for their toxicity as well as how quickly they biodegraded. They also completed real-world tests to gauge performance.
