ROSEVILLE, Minn. – The Marine Fabricators Association’s 2010 National Convention will be held at the Rosen Plaza Hotel in Orlando, Fla., on Jan. 10-12, according to a recent release from the group.
Harris Rosen, President and COO of Rosen Hotels & Resorts, will serve as keynote speaker.
Rosen will share the story of his journey from a child raised in New York’s Lower East Side to becoming Florida’s largest independent hotelier, with seven Orlando hotels totaling close to 6,300 rooms, according to the association’s release.
Rosen graduated from Cornell University before a three-year stint as an Army officer, after which he went on to management and sales positions with the Waldorf Astoria, Hilton, the Post Company and Disney.
He purchased his first hotel in 1974 and allowed tour operators to name rates on cocktail napkins and use them as contracts, according to the release.
Rosen’s philanthropic endeavors include the Tangelo Park Program, which provides a free college or vocational education to any child living in Tangelo Park, Fla., who graduates high school. To date, the 16-year-old program has sent approximately 350 students to college.
