Senate approves National Marina Day resolution

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The US Senate has approved a resolution designating Aug. 8, 2009 as National Marina Day, the Association of Marina Industries (AMI) reported in a recent statement.

The resolution was sponsored by Senator Sheldon Whitehous [D-RI] and co-sponsored by Sen. Thad Cochran [R-MS], Sen. Russell Feingold[D-WI], Sen. James Inhofe [R-OK], Sen. Herb Kohl [D-WI], Sen. Patty Murray [D-WA], Sen. Charles Schumer [D-NY], Sen. Debbie Stabenow[D-MI], Sen. David Vitter [R-LA], and
Sen. Jack Reed [D-RE].

This resolution supports the goals of National Marina Day and urges America’s marinas to continue to serve as environmentally friendly gateways to boating, AMI explained.

National Marina Day is celebrating its 8th year and marinas across the country are being asked to recognize the day at their facility by inviting their communities to visit local marinas and learn about the industry and the link marinas provide to our waterways, stated the association. Planned celebrations are as small as providing handouts on clean waters to customers and guests, and as grand as all-day festivals complete with banquets and fireworks. Events are posted on www.marinaassociation.org/nmd/events-list.
