Missing California yacht dealer wanted in fraud investigation

DANA POINT, Calif. – This past weekend, Ed Fitzgerald, owner of Dana Point Yachts, disappeared, leaving behind hundreds of thousands of dollars in outstanding debt, as well as employees, investors and customers with a lot of questions, according to an article today on the KABC-TV Los Angeles Web site.

Fitzgerald had owned the business, which bought and sold used boats and offered chartered boat trips, for over 20 years, according to the article.

His office now stands locked; employees are out of work; and Fitzgerald is wanted by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department as a person of interest in a possible fraud investigation, the article reported.

“There are so many victims … probably 20 … probably the list is going to grow,” Jim Amormino of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department told the TV station. “So many different allegations of loans and checks written … money is missing from escrow accounts.”
