Boating Industry magazine launches LinkedIn group

MAPLE GROVE, Minn. – In an effort to create ongoing networking and dialog among marine industry leaders, Boating Industry magazine has launched an industry news and discussion group on LinkedIn, a professional networking site.

The group’s site features breaking news and industry discussion on timely topics, in addition to a jobs board and the opportunity to network among all members. On the day of the site’s launch, ongoing discussions included trends in the boat show business and ways to attract underrepresented demographics to the marine industry.

“The editorial team at Boating Industry is dedicated to adopting new technologies that allow it to better serve its readers and the entire recreational marine business,” said Liz Walz, BI Senior Editor. “This new group is a prime example of that dedication, as was our launch of a Twitter account a few weeks back, and as is our work on several new online projects to be unveiled in the coming weeks.”

Boating Industry’s Twitter account feeds news, information and updates to people and companies that follow Boating Industry on that social networking site. Followers can also choose to receive updates online or through their mobile devices.

Boating Industry, which publishes its free e-newsletter – a summary of recent recreational marine business news – twice a week, has recently begun posting the news its readers need to know immediately on its Web site, www.boatingindustry.com, as the editors receive it. All of this news is updated into the Boating Industry LinkedIn Group through a news feed and is available to read and discuss.

“Professional networking has become critically important to the boating industry as we, together, deal with today’s economic turmoil,” said BI Editor-In-Chief Matt Gruhn. “We believe that our role as a media outlet can help develop that. Rather than just continue to distribute news on a daily basis, for example, we want to generate dialog about the implications of that news — how can we bring it to life in a discussion format that seeks to create solutions for improving the industry? We believe this is a great avenue for doing just that.”
