Paid marine industry internship program launched
BROCKTON, Mass. – The Massachusetts Jobs In Boating grant has developed a paid internship program through Massasoit Community College and the Massachusetts Marine Trades Association, organizers reported in a recent statement.
This program is designed to give career explorers and job seekers opportunities to investigate careers in the Massachusetts recreational marine trades industry with a focus on the role of marine technician, according to the groups.
“In this challenging economic climate, an internship provides quality learning plus a paid work experience for older teens or anyone aspiring for a lifestyle career,” stated the groups.
Through the 96-hour, paid internship, participants will gain exposure to the broad range of duties and responsibilities of the marine technician as well as knowledge of the related technical skills, training and advancement opportunities that exist in the trade, the groups explained.
“JIB/MA Marine Trades paid internships are a comprehensive and direct way to gain training and experience toward earning an industry recognized certificate, not to mention getting a head start on a marine trades job,” they said in the statement.
Massachusetts marine trades internships are available to anyone age 17 and older who at a minimum has completed the junior year of high school, has a high school diploma or GED or is in the final stages of completing either of those requirements. An intern can be a student, job seeker, career changer or a person re-entering the workforce.
