G3 cuts one-fifth of workers

LEBANON, Mo. — G3 Boats laid off about one-fifth of its workforce last week, according to a report in the Lebanon Daily Record. In all, 53 workers were affected.

“For some time we have been able to deal with the slowdown by taking steps to reduce hours and production days in total,” G3’s general manager said in a release quoted by the paper, “but now it has become necessary to lay off some of our associates, due to the market not rebounding as soon as expected.”

G3, one of three Yamaha Motor Group boat companies, had not announced layoffs since the economy began to slide last year, according to the paper’s report. G3 manufactures more than 100 models of aluminum fishing boats and pontoons.
