Sea Ray’s Knoxville plant lays off 70 workers

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Brunswick Corp. laid off more workers in its Sea Ray Boat division Thursday, including 70 workers at Sea Ray’s Knoxville plant. This comes in addition to 70 that were already announced for the nearby Riverview plant, the Knoxville News Sentinel reported in an article yesterday.

Brunswick announced it would mothball the Riverview plant in January, and Thursday was the last day for about 70 Riverview positions, according to the News Sentinel report. The Knoxville plant’s 70 layoffs are new job losses. Some of the laid off workers had been transferred to Knoxville when the Riverview layoffs were originally announced, the paper said.

Brunswick spokesman Dan Kubera told the Sentinel that Brunswick hopes to bring workers back if and when the economy improves.
