Crownline delays plant reopening

WEST FRANKFORT, Ill. — Crownline Boats has postponed the reopening of its West Frankfort plant, which was scheduled for today, until June 1, according to a report in the West Frankfort Daily American.

The decision was announced last week by David T. Fisher, Crownline’s president and chief executive officer, who said boat show sales have lagged significantly behind previous levels and dealers are focused on selling current inventory as opposed to ordering new boats from the factory, the Daily American reported. Fisher also said the company has always employed a build-to-order approach, where operating levels are dependent on demand.

The facility closed in mid-December due to significant declines in orders. In February, the company announced it was seeking a buyer or investor, but explained that it remains optimistic about its future prospects as it continues that search.
