Detroit Boat Show reports mixed sales

DETROIT – Producers of the 51st Annual Detroit Boat Show reported mixed sales during the 9-day show, which ran Feb. 14-22 at Cobo Center in Detroit.

“While some exhibitors were extremely pleased with their sales activity at the show, others were disappointed,” said Detroit Boat Show Manager Van Snider in a recent statement. “Sales reports seemed to be all over the board – some exceeded their expectations, others were hoping for more.”

The Detroit Boat Show experienced good traffic on opening weekend and on Monday, President’s Day, according to the Michigan Boating Industries Association (MBIA), which produces the event. Midweek attendance slowed and a second weekend snow storm scared many show-goers away, it added. Final attendance numbers were down 22.9 percent with 65,564 people attending.

“Obviously the economy was also a factor in the decrease,” said Snider. “However, there were a good number of boat buyers at the event.”

Most exhibitors were pleased with the quality and number of leads generated and are optimistic about the sales activity that will follow the show, MBIA concluded.
