$600,000 grant to help laid off Brunswick workers
LITTLE FALLS, Minn. — More than $600,000 in government grant money aims to help laid-off Brunswick Corp. workers in Little Falls and New York Mills, Minn., return to work, according to a report in the St. Cloud Times of Minnesota.
Brunswick laid off 115 employees at its Crestliner and Lund plants in November. In response, a $607,400 grant will be used for a dislocated worker project, the Times cites Minnesota’s Department of Employment and Economic Development as saying.
The state- and federally funded program helps laid-off workers find employment, educate themselves on layoff survival and how to live with a reduced budget, and helps with skills such as interviewing and resume writing, the Times reports.
The project already has begun, Jason Cummings, who works at Rural Minnesota Concentrated Employment Program, told the Times.
Last month, Little Falls boat makers Larson, Glastron and Seaswirl also laid off employees, but it is unclear exactly how many, according to the Times.
