Long Island Boat Show scales back

UNIONDALE, N.Y. — Last week’s Long Island Boat Show was a scaled back affair that featured a new format, according to a report in Newsday.

The event’s sponsor, the New York Marine Trades Association, decided to hold the event in four days instead of two three-day weekends to make it more affordable for dealers, Newsday reported.

Events Manager Vincent Mazzone told the magazine that the number of dealers is the same, but there are only about 100 boats on display compared with almost 150 last year and some of that space has been filled by accessory vendors. Mazzone also said he expects attendance to be 8,000 this year compared with 12,000 in previous years.

“People are still buying boats,” Dave Kazmark, vice president of the marine trades group, told Newsday. “They are die-hard boaters who live for their boat. With the price of fuel being down, it’s going to make a big difference. And the manufacturers are offering some very, very good incentives I’ve never seen before.”
