NEW BERN, N.C. — Hatteras Yachts recently sponsored a job fair for employees it laid off last month, according to an article in the New Bern Sun Journal of North Carolina. About 200 people attended to learn about college job training, retirement planning and unemployment programs, the Sun Journal reports.
Hatteras laid off 330 employees, half of the workforce at its New Bern plant, Jan. 13 and 14, according to the article.
The information session at Craven Community College provided information from a number of organizations, Bill Naumann, chairman of Hatteras Yachts, told the newspaper.
“Just because they've left doesn't mean they're not part of our family,” Naumann said. “The fact they are disconnected from an employment standpoint doesn't mean they are disconnected from people at Hatteras.”
