Brandy Marine expands into luxury marina management

SARASOTA, Fla. – Brandy Marine International, L.L.C. of Sarasota, Fla., is expanding into marina management at high-end luxury international resorts as the middle-of-the-road domestic boating and marina market sputters, the company reported in a release today.

Brandy Marine said it’s aggressively pursuing the international mega-yacht and luxury boating market by providing consulting, design and concierge-style management services to destination marinas aimed at the ultra-upscale boating market.

Brandy Marine, in 2008, signed contracts to manage two international luxury marinas – Marina Papagayo at the Peninsula Papagayo resort in Guanacaste province on the northwestern Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, and Marina Cap Cana at the Cap Cana resort on the southeastern coast of the Dominican Republic. Both marinas are up and running and accepting mega-yachts and luxury sport-fishing boats at the height of the tourist and big-game fishing season.

“Managing Marina Papagayo and Marina Cap Cana are outstanding opportunities for Brandy Marine,” said Capt. Bruce H. Blomgren, president and CEO of Brandy Marine. “When completed, these marinas will be comparable to the great international destination marinas of the world.”

Marina Cap Cana is projected to have 1,250 wet slips at build-out. The marina currently has 89 slips accommodating yachts from 40’ to 130’ in length. Marina Cap Cana is part of the 30,000-acre Cap Cana resort, which currently offers the exclusive Caleton Beach Club, a Jack Nicklaus Punta Espada Golf Course and clubhouse, tennis courts and the Sanctuary Cap Cana Golf & Spa, an Alta Bella hotel with eight restaurants and seven bars. The resort will be under development for 15 years and a total of 8,500 residences are projected for the project.

Marina Papagayo is projected to have 350 wet slips at build-out. It opened in December 2008 with 180 slips accommodating vessels from 35’ to 220’ in length. It is part of the 2,300-acre Peninsula Papagayo resort with a Four Seasons hotel, an Arnold Palmer Golf Course and clubhouse and the exclusive Prieta Beach Club. A total of 500 residences are projected.

Brandy Marine International executives, including Capt. Blomgren, will be at the Miami International Boat Show Feb. 12-16 to share information and answer questions about the company’s latest international and domestic projects and to cultivate future clients in the yachting, marina and waterfront resort industry.
