Cruisers Yachts shuts down production

OCONTO, Wis. – Cruisers Yachts is ceasing production for a month because of the economy and a sales decline of recreational vehicles, The Associated Press reported in a story on the Minneapolis Star Tribune Web site this week.

KCS International President Jim Viestenz said employees were placed on unemployment and notified that a tentative return date is scheduled for early March. He said the company now employs just under 300. In November 2007, the Cruisers Yachts said it had more than 500 workers, AP reported.

In recent years, Cruisers Yachts has typically shut down for a week during the winter months for inventory, according to the story.
