Expansion planned for Hell’s Bay Boatworks
TITUSVILLE, Fla. – Business at Hell’s Bay Boatworks was “remarkable” in the run-up to the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, the company said in a release yesterday.
The 10-year old Titusville, Fla., company, which builds custom shallow-water performance skiffs, is riding a high tide based on its products, promotions and a recent merger, according to the release.
“Business has been excellent despite news of massive layoffs, downsizing or closures at other boat builders across the continent,” said Hell’s Bay Boatworks owner and President Chris Peterson. “In fact, because of our back log and what we’ve recently added to it we’re hiring workers and looking to add to the production capacity.”
Since the recent merger with Gordon Boatworks in mid-June, Peterson said sales have increased. Tom Gordon, who had a loyal following during Hell’s Bay’s early years before forming Gordon Boatworks, is back and in charge of sales at Hell’s Bay.
“He’s great at it,” said Peterson. “Fall is considered the slow time of the year for boat sales but we’re trying to pickup production capacity to make them as fast as Tom sells them. We’re both extremely happy as are the customers and it’s been a great marriage so far.”
