Zodiac to double factory size as RIB sales jump

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Zodiac of North America, Inc. plans to double its factory size and increase production capacity at its plant in Summerville, S.C., the company said recently.

Zodiac RIB sales increased 14 percent in FY 2007 and 11 percent in FY 2008, which the company attributed to the boats’ fuel efficiency and smoother rides. Zodiac manufactures and assembles Zodiac Pro, ProOpen, and Yachtline product lines at the Summerville facility, representing all of its RIBs except the ProJets. Military and Professional RIBs are also slated for production when the expansion is operational.

“We are starting to see our recreational RIBs take hold in America as primary boats like they are in Europe where fuel prices have been high for years,” Howard French, vice president, Zodiac of North America, said. “Expanding at our South Carolina facility not only allows us to meet this rising demand, but it also improves our efficiency with other models built at this facility.”

The Zodiac Recreational Products executive and administrative staff will also relocate to the Summerville facility to have all services under a single roof.

“The workforce in South Carolina is outstanding, our production management team is seasoned and ready for the challenge, and having more products built under the same roof will contribute to our efficiency, and help us remain competitive as the market leader,” French said.
