BWI to sponsor discussion of market expansion

FORT LAUDERDALE – Boating Writers International (BWI) is scheduled to host a “Newsmaker” session on growing the marine industry’s customer base as part of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

“Expanding the Boating Universe Beyond Middle-aged Males” will feature a panel discussion on changes in the U.S. market and how to write about recreational boating for Hispanics, women and African Americans.

The panel will feature Pedro Diaz, editor of Mar y Pesca, the first Hispanic boating magazine in the U.S.; Wanda Kenton Smith, president of Kenton Smith Advertising & Public Relations and founder of International Women in Boating as well as Marine Marketing to Women, an educational program; and Raymond Blue, co-founder of Black Boaters Club of America.

During the same session, BWI will present the West Marine Writer’s Award and its $5,000 prize and announce details about the 2008 BWI Annual Writing Contest.
