Bankrupt boat builder’s plant to be reopened

VIVIAN, La. – Last week, a group of local investors purchased the assets of bankrupt boat builder VIP Boats, Vivian, La., at auction, and now they plan to rehire 40 workers by the end of November and resume production, according to an article posted yesterday on KTBS.com.

The former owners, Vivian Industries, Inc., filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in March after it was unable to pay the town the $180,000 it owed.

The new owners of the company, which Vivian Mayor Steve Taylor said has been the community’s biggest employer, told the media outlet that it may employ as many as 200 workers by the end of 2010.
