Florida retailer Lentine Marine to stop selling new boats

STUART, Fla. — Longtime Treasure Coast boat dealer Lentine Marine will no longer sell new boats, according to a report on TCPalm.com.

The company cites rising costs and lagging sales, the site says, as the reason it will transition to selling pre-owned boats on consignment.

“We’ve lost a lot of our smaller boat buyers,” Lou Lentine, owner of the dealership with wife Julie Lentine, told TCPalm. “Masons, electricians, plumbers — a lot of these guys are out of work and are not buying boats.”

Lentine said his floorplan financing arrangement with Textron Financial Corp. became cost prohibitive.

“It’s getting scary,” he told TCPalm. “After watching the president’s speech Wednesday night, it doesn’t look like it’s going to get better for another year or more.”
