Four Winns temporarily lays off employees

CADILLAC, Mich. –Four Winns has laid off an unspecified number of workers and stopped production of its small boat production, according to media sources here.

Explaining that retails sales fell off over the last 90 days, Four Winns President Jeff Olson, according to The Cadillac News, suggested that the layoffs will be temporary, and he hopes to bring people back in a few weeks.

“We’re just trying to figure out what the market place is going to give us,” Olson told www.tv7-4.com WPBN television in Traverse City, Mich., “and in two weeks we will hopefully have an answer.”

Four Winns told the station that orders from dealers are about a month late and it reported that Olson blames that on several issues, including the sluggish economy.

“We’ve seen our dealers be really resistant on trying to take on more inventory now because they’re trying to sell the last of their 08’s,” Olson told WPBN. “Hopefully we can bring everybody back. But until we get an idea of what our backlog of orders is going to be, we don’t know that.”
