Discount marine supplier reports record sales

WATERFORD, Conn. – Discount marine supplier Defender Industries’ 2008 year-to-date sales through June 30 increased 17.7 percent over record sales in the same period last year, the company reported in a statement earlier this week.

The company’s second quarter sales were up by 12.6 percent. Monthly increases ranged from 5.3 percent to 35.1 percent during the 6-month period, including the largest single month ever in Defender’s 70-year history, the company stated.

“Our business has more than doubled in the last 6 years,” said Defender Executive Director Al Knupp. “However, we recognize that true success is not measured in the sales numbers alone. Our goal of making every transaction win-win-win-win for our customers, employees, suppliers and our company proves that winning doesn’t mean somebody has to lose.”

“Everyone recognizes that these are challenging times, especially in our industry. We are selectively adding experienced staff in strategic positions and continuing to invest in our Business to ensure the quality and efficiency of our operations stay ahead of our sales growth,” Knupp added.

Founded in 1938, Defender Industries is a family-owned profit-sharing marine outfitter and supplier of brand name boating equipment, supplies, accessories, apparel, inflatable boats and outboard motors for boaters worldwide via catalog, the Internet at www.defender.com and throughout the Northeastern U.S. at the Defender Warehouse Outlet Store located at its headquarters in Waterford, Conn.
