Mercury union workers ratify labor agreement
FOND DU LAC, Wis. – Mercury Marine officials and Local Lodge 1947 of the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers Union came to terms on a four-year labor agreement Saturday when union members approved the proposed contract during a general membership vote, Mercury said in a press release Saturday.
The former contract expired June 21, but was extended to allow union members ample opportunity to review the new proposal.
Company and union officials worked nearly six months to reach a final agreement, employing “interest-based bargaining” techniques to ensure that concerns of both parties were addressed.
“Both sides worked very hard to pay attention to what was important to the membership employees while balancing those needs with the overall cost structure of our Fond du Lac operations,” said Dennis Rooney, vice president and chief spokesperson for Mercury.
“We are all pleased to have this four-year agreement ratified,” Rooney continued. “It sends a sign that, together, we will remain a strong and positive presence in Fond du Lac and throughout the boating industry.”
