Meridian Yachts to stop production for a month
ARLINGTON, Wash. – Meridian Yachts is the latest Brunswick boatbuilder to reveal details about expected employee furloughs. The company’s plant in Arlington, Wash., will shut down for a month this summer, idling about 600 hourly employees starting July 28, according to a story on HeraldNet this morning. They will return to work on Aug. 25.
During the temporary shutdown, employees can receive advance payment for their vacation time and file for unemployment benefits. Added together, that will give the average hourly employee more than 60 percent of his or her normal weekly wages, Brunswick told the newspaper. The company also will keep up medical and dental benefits for the affected workers.
As with other Brunswick furloughs announced earlier this month, the furlough doesn’t include administrative positions and other employees who aren’t part of the daily production of boats. That means about 230 people will keep working through the summer at the Meridian plant.
