Attwood to close plant
LOWELL, Mich. – Boat accessories manufacturer Attwood Corp. plans to let 52 workers go as part of the closure of its Lancaster, Texas-based Swivl-Eze facility this summer, according to a report yesterday in the Dallas Business Journal.
“This move is part of our continuing efforts to be more efficient and productive with all resources at our disposal, including manufacturing capacity and capability,” commented Dan Kubera, director of media relations and corporate communications for Attwood parent company, Brunswick Corp., in a statement this morning. “This change, which was undertaken only after careful and deliberate study, is taking place in order to better accommodate the increase in Swivl-Eze business and to better utilize overall manufacturing capacity, as well as take advantage of improved freight costs and supplier base.”
Operations currently underway at the facility, which makes seat pedestals, ski tow equipment and transom savers, will be moved to the company’s headquarters in Lowell, Mich., the Dallas publication reported.
The company plans to give its workers 60 days notice of the layoffs, which will begin in August and continue for several months, according to the journal.
