Bass Pro Shops and MarineMax partner

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. and CLEARWATER, Fla. – Bass Pro Shops and MarineMax are joining forces for the “Great American Boat Sale” from May 30 to June 15, MarineMax Vice President of Marketing Glenn Sandridge said in an interview this morning.

“We do compete in some areas, but we complement each other in many other areas than we compete,” Sandridge said. “The idea is that we kind of hope two plus two equals five, and we’ll sell a bunch of boats.”

The two retailers are hosting 17 joint events in Bass Pro Shops locations. Additionally, there are 19 off-site MarineMax-only events and all remaining Bass Pro Shops, MarineMax and Tracker dealers will be holding the “Great American Boat Sale.”

Sea Rays will be in Bass Pro Shops, Trackers will be in MarineMaxes and incentives to buy will be everywhere. Every buyer, no matter where they buy during the event, will receive a Bass Pro Shops gift card up to $800. Consumers will also be able to take advantage of Sea Ray’s extended Launch Party incentives.

“We’ve taken our world’s largest boat show concept that we’ve done the last two years in August and moved it into June,” Sandridge said. “Together we can make this thing bigger than it would be individually.”

“I think we would have figured this out eventually,” Sandridge said of the joint promotion. “But certainly the state of the market was the impetus for the initiative of this at this time.”
