Maine boat builders launch marketing campaign

PORTLAND, Maine – Maine’s boat building industry unveiled a $2 million campaign to promote the state’s $650 million boat building industry, Mainebiz reported in a story yesterday.

The campaign, funded by a federal grant funneled through the North Star Alliance, which represents Maine companies involved in the boat building industry, includes a new logo (“Art and Soul”), new website (www.mainebuiltboats.com) and a print advertising campaign that will run in national magazines such as Fortune, The New York Times Magazine and Wooden Boat, according to the news publication.

The campaign also includes training for Maine’s boat builders to help them learn to promote their products to a global audience, Mainebiz said.

“This is new territory for many of our builders,” said Jane Wellehan, president of Maine Built Boats. “They are stepping out into the world in a new way.”

MBB was established in 2005 to strengthen and expand Maine’s boat building industry. The organization partners with the state and federal government to leverage resources and develop a favorable business environment for the Maine boat building industry. In addition, MBB is dedicated to supporting marine industry training.
