ABBRA presents annual awards at IMBC

WARREN, R.I. – The American Boat Builders & Repairers Association held its annual awards’ celebration at the recent International Marina & Boatyard Conference in Atlanta. The awards, which recognize individuals and companies from the boatyard and repairer industry for their excellence throughout the year, were given in six categories for each recipient’s performance in 2007.

The Dennis Snow President’s Award—given annually to the individual or organization who makes a significant and lasting contribution to improving the state of the boatyard industry—was presented to the Landing School in Arundel, Maine, a full-time post-secondary vocational school that specializes in careers in the marine industry.

ABBRA’s Award of Excellence, or ABBRA’s “Boatyard of the Year,” awarded to the service or repair yard that demonstrates excellence in all facets of business through commitment to customer relations, quality management, and positive vendor and employee relations, was given to Knight & Carver Yacht Center located in National City, Calif.

The Excellence in Safety award recognized Starkweather and Shepley Insurance, ABBRA’s endorsed brokers for its ABBRAGARD program. S&S’s support for improved risk management and safety in boatyards has made a significant difference for many of the association’s members, ABBRA said.

The Excellence in Technology award was presented to J&J Marine on the Taunton River about 18 miles by water from Newport, R.I.

The Commitment to Training award was given to the Irish Boat Shop. Irish Boat Shop has two facilities: one in Harbor Springs and another in Charlevoix Michigan.

ABBRA offers its congratulations to all the 2007 Award winners and thanks them for their willingness to share their accomplishments with the rest of the industry. For more information on ABBRA’s annual awards’ categories and nomination process, please visit www.abbra.org.
