Providence Boat Show reconfigured
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence Boat Show producers Newport Exhibition Group will concentrate the show’s exhibits on powerboats that appeal to the family cruising and fishing audiences as well as small sailing craft, the organizers said in a statement Friday. As a consequence, all exhibits previously located at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center will be consolidated into expanded space at the Rhode Island Convention Center.
“The ‘Dunk’ was primarily opened for large, cruising sailboats but the strength of the Providence Show is in powerboats, especially those that appeal to families and fishermen,” said Nancy Piffard, show director. “We also have a big audience for small sailing craft such as Laser and Sunfish. Larger sailboats have opted to limit their exposure at indoor shows and we had already moved our fishing section and Small Sailing Craft Center to more prominent positions in the Convention Center. So, as things progressed, it became more logical to keep everything together in the Convention Center’s 140,000 foot space for the convenience of the attendees.”
The show, scheduled to run Jan. 3-6, 2008, will have more than 220 exhibitors and 300 boats. Rhode Island boat registration and renewal will be on site so boaters can register their boats at the show. There will also be 180 booths with electronics, engines, accessories and services including financing, insurance, storage, repairs and maintenance.
