Cobalt moves yacht biz to Kansas

NEODESHA, Kan. – Cobalt Boats, a manufacturer of luxury sport boats and express cruisers, will move its Tennessee yacht production operation to the company headquarters in Neodesha, Kan., the company reported in a recent statement.

Pack and Paxson St. Clair made the announcement to a group of 120 associates at the Cobalt Yachts facility located in Vonore, Tenn.

“We underestimated the complexity of the Tennessee startup operation combined with the distance from our Kansas headquarters,” said Pack St. Clair, founder of Cobalt Boats. “The 37’ and 46’ Cobalt Yachts have been blessed with praise from the boating media, strong Cobalt dealer support and a growing backlog of retail orders. Our decision to move operations to Neodesha will only further enhance the positive position of the yachts.”

“The Cobalt Yachts built in Tennessee are definitely of pinnacle quality and craftsmanship, reflective of the talent and dedication of our team in Vonore,” said Paxson St. Clair, CEO of Cobalt. “However, the duplication of many resources required at the Tennessee facility, which all have been in place for over 40 years at our home in Neodesha, were redundant. By bringing the Cobalt Yachts operations home to Kansas, we feel we will not only retain the superior quality developed in Tennessee, but we will take advantage of eliminating redundant processes.”

A core group of managers and associates have been offered opportunities to transfer to the headquarters in Neodesha, the company reported.
