Marina Retrofit Conference concludes
WARREN, R.I. – The Marina Retrofit, Redesign and Construction Conference – owned and operated by the International Marina Institute, a subsidiary of the Association of Marina Industries, concluded earlier this week to rave reviews, organizers said in a release.
The conference ran from Oct. 21 – 23, in West Palm Beach, Fla. Over 100 attendees from around the world, two corporate sponsors, and 11 exhibitors came together to discuss the details, pitfalls, and solutions associated with redesigning and retrofitting an existing marina. Topics ranged from pollution control to wave attenuation, and upcoming trends in boaters’ needs to electrical and fire-safety standards. Attendees leaving the conference were overheard stating that the content was “outstanding,” “excellent” and “well worth the investment.”
The conference, sponsored by Hoist Liftruck and Premier Materials, ended with a roundtable discussion that included Tim Blankenship of Coastal Systems International Inc; Tim Timpson, CMM, of MarinaResource LLC; Oscar Siches of Pantalan Del Mediterraneo; Daniel Natchez of Daniel S. Natchez and Associates Inc.; Jim Shafer, AMS, of Harbor Marine Consultants Inc; and Larry Halgren of Aqua Marine Partners LLC.
Other speakers included Jim Frye, CMM, of Westrec Marinas and AMI president, along with Andrew Cantor of NorthPoint Marina Finance Corporation and John Studt of Coastal Systems International Inc. The conference was hosted by Kirby Scheimann of Marinas International Inc.
In 2008, IMI will host another similar conference on topics related to drystack from Oct. 26 – 28 in Southeast Florida.
