Another marine business sets up shop in N.C.

RALEIGH – Boat lift builder Hi-Tide Sales Inc. will open a facility in Washington, N.C., creating 68 jobs and investing $1 million during the next three years, N.C. Gov. Mike Easley announced in a recent statement from his office.

“There are more than 1,140 boat-building and related firms employing about 30,000 people in North Carolina,” Easley said. “The boating industry is a key part of our state’s economy and we will continue to make the investments in workforce development and education that attract these growing companies.”

Hi-Tide Sales, founded in 1979, currently operates out of a facility in Fort Pierce, Fla. Rapid growth has created the need to expand, the Governor’s Office reported. The average pay for all of the new jobs will be $806 a week, plus benefits, which is more than the Beaufort County average of $571 per week, not including benefits, according to the Governor’s Office.

“Hi-Tide has a very aggressive growth plan for the near and distant future,” said company President Chuck Gerber. “As such, our move into the Washington, N.C., facility is a key component to achieving our goals.”

Partners who helped make this announcement possible include the N.C. Department of Commerce, Beaufort County, the Beaufort County Economic Development Commission and the Beaufort Committee of 100, the Governor’s Office reported.
