Sales up, attendance down at Minneapolis Boat Show

MINNEAPOLIS – Sales at the 35th annual Minneapolis Boat Show appeared to be up from 2006 despite lower overall attendance, according to a story on minneapolis.dbusinessnews.com this morning.

The show, held Jan. 17-21 the Minneapolis Convention Center, drew 40,616 visitors, down 9 percent from 2006. This year’s show featured 200 exhibitors and more than 700 boats, covering over 400,000 square feet.

“Sales were up considerably compared to last year’s Minneapolis Boat Show,” said Peter Neises, operations manager for MarineMax. “Additionally, our team is encouraged by the amount of post show interest, especially in fiberglass sport boats, providing us with confidence and enthusiasm for 2007.”

Organizers introduced a new promotion at the show this year. All attendees who purchased a boat at the show received a $50 gift certificate to Boater’s World and were entered to win a cash prize of $5,000.

“Boating is such a great tradition in Minnesota and the show continues to be the destination where Minnesotans purchase their new boat at a great price,” said Jennifer Thompson, Minneapolis Boat Show Manager. “We will continue working to improve the retail environment for our exhibitors and attendees and are already working on new ideas for next year.”

Next year, the Minneapolis Boat Show will take place January 23-27 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
