NY/NJ show attendance up dramatically

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – More than 7,000 people attended the fifth annual New York/New Jersey International Boat Show, presented by BP at Liberty Landing Marina in Jersey City, N.J., a large increase in attendance, compared to last year, which was hit by bad weather.

“This year was the tipping point – it proved we are here to stay,” said show producer Ken Tesler of Liberty Event Management during a phone interview. “We have goals to bring a much bigger crowd over time.”

More than 300 boats were on display during the four-day show, held September 28-October 1. Show features included in-water boats with available sea trial demonstrations, a 50,000-square-foot indoor section, a special section for sailboats, the Amoco Ultimate Fuel Experience from BP that educated the attendees about the power and fuel economy advantages of Amoco Fuels at BP, and the GE Dealer Hospitality tent.

Most importantly, the dealers were selling boats, ranging from tenders to yachts, during the show, according to organizers.

“We were very excited and pleased with the results and the crowds that attended the recent New York/New Jersey International Boat Show,” said Irwin L. Jacobs, chairman of Genmar, who has supported the show. “Subject to agreed upon dates, Genmar is also planning to support an additional retail boat show at the Liberty Landing Marina next spring or early summer. Genmar will also enthusiastically once again support the New York/New Jersey International Boat Show scheduled for September 27-30, 2007.”

Jacobs added that he believes the show has “the opportunity of becoming one of the largest and most successful retail boat shows in North America.”
