Godfrey Marine settles with EPA

CHICAGO – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region 5, has reached an agreement with Godfrey Marine Syracuse, Ind., on alleged clean-air violations at the company’s aluminum boat manufacturing plant, the EPA said in a release yesterday.

The agreement, which includes a $45,853 penalty, resolves EPA allegations that Godfrey emitted excessive amounts of hazardous air pollutants from its coating operation. In addition, the EPA said the company failed to comply with reporting requirements.

Beginning in February, Godfrey took steps to reduce its air emissions, including using paints and solvents with low hazardous air pollutant content. As a result, the company achieved compliance with air pollution emission limits by the end of August, the EPA said.
