BRP doubles market share

STURTEVANT, Wis. – Retail and wholesale sales of Evinrude E-TEC outboard engines were up over 100 percent in model year 2006 and are on track for further growth in 2007, reported Bombardier Recreational Products Inc.’s Roch Lambert, vice president and general manager of outboard marine engines, in an edition of The Real Deal newsletter sent yesterday.

Lambert said that from July 1 to present, retail sales are up more than 70 percent over the prior year, resulting in a doubling of market share.

“Much of this growth can be attributed to strong retail demand for Evinrude engines in re-power, as well as new boat packages,” wrote Lambert. “Our OEM contracting is nearly complete, and our boat builder partners now total over 110 companies.”

Thus far, BRP has increased E-TEC production by 35 percent over last year, adding employees to allow it to catch up with the backlog for mid-range engines.

Separately, the company reported that it recently appointed former Harley-Davidson employee Michael Kennedy as vice president of North American outboard engine sales.
