M Ship Co. files patent infringement suit
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – M Ship Co. has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against United Kingdom-based ICE Marine Ltd. in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida to enforce M Ship Co.’s patent rights covering its M-hull boat technology, M Ship said in a statement yesterday. The lawsuit alleges that ICE Marine has infringed M Ship Co.’s patent entitled M-Shaped Boat Hull and has induced others to infringe the patent in the United States.
M Ship Co. founders Chuck Robinson and Bill Burns invented the M-hull, a non-conventional air entrapment hull design. M Ship recently delivered the military demonstrator, Stiletto, an 80-foot twin M-hull design. The M-hull’s performance capabilities are said to offer rapid penetration into the commercial and recreational markets and expanding into them has been part of the company’s overall business strategy, M Ship said.
M Ship’s lead counsel in the lawsuit is Richard Clegg of the San Diego law firm Seltzer Caplan McMahon Vitek. Harvey Gurland, Jr., of Duane Morris LLP’s Miami office, will be local co-counsel.
