Cary Marine ramps up its business

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Cary Marine, a yacht and power boating builder for the past four decades, is ramping up for a return to higher levels of activity, CEO Brenda Nestor announced in a recent statement from the company.

A first step is the auction of five of its existing boats – two 70-foot luxury yachts, two 50-foot powerboats, and a 45-foot boat. The five boats will be sold at auction on July 20, according to Nestor.

But that, she said, is just the beginning.

“We’re clearing the decks, so to speak,” said Nestor, who added that Cary is working on designs for new models.

“The marketplace is right, and we’re in the perfect position to introduce new yachts and boats designed for today’s enthusiasts,” she said.

To sell its existing inventory of yachts, Cary retained the Yacht Auction Group, a partnership of J.P. King Auction Company, Fort Lauderdale entrepreneur Kelly Drum, and yacht show promoter Kaye Pearson.

J.P. King will manage the sale, according to Craig King, president and CEO of the firm.

“This will allow Cary to accomplish its goal of selling the stock of demonstration vehicles, and it will provide a springboard to an exciting future for the company,” said King.

“Cary boats have always had a loyal following of boaters who appreciate their remarkable performance,” said Drum.

The Cary history dates back to the 1960s, when Elton Cary joined with racing specialist Don Aronow to create the first Cigarette. When a reporter asked him in the 1960s what made Cary boats better, he replied: “Time.” He went on to explain his philosophy, which consisted of custom building boats to fit “any self-respecting millionaire.”

That philosophy remains the bedrock of Cary today, said Nestor.

“Our company’s philosophy is to focus on quality, not quantity. It’s the difference between a fine painting and a snapshot. We’re going to produce masterpieces he would have been proud of,” said Nestor.
