Moores Marine to move headquarters to N.C.

BEAUFORT, N.C. – Moores Marine of the Palm Beaches Inc., a Trumpy yacht restoration company, has purchased 18 acres near Beaufort, N.C. and will move its headquarters there, the New Bern Sun Journal reported in a story yesterday.

The company will continue its South Florida operations but send major projects to North Carolina as the property is developed. The first phase is construction of a marine supply store and a 140-foot-long paint and work building, the newspaper reported.

The company, founded in 1986 by James P. Moores, specializes in American-built antique and classic wooden yachts and has completed more than 100 major projects including 20 Trumpy yachts.

Before moving to South Florida, Moores built commercial fishing boats and Maine dories in Lubec, Maine, and owned one of the oldest boat shops on the East Coast, R.S. Colson Boat Works, founded in 1916.

“There’s a great wooden boat building tradition there so I know we can get the craftsmen,” Moores told the newspaper. “I think with all the boat building in Carteret County and its history, this is going to be a lot better for our major projects.”
