ABC to feature speeches by congressional leaders

WASHINGTON – Recreational boating industry leaders and a line-up of congressional leaders will attend the 2006 American Boating Congress April 30-May 2, said the National Marine Manufacturers Association, which organizes the conference, in a statement yesterday.

Several congressional leaders from both the House and Senate will speak to industry leaders regarding legislative and regulatory issues that impact the recreational marine industry and the boating public.

“Each of these congressional leaders has shown great support for the boating industry in Congress, and the conversations and interactions between them and our industry leaders are sure to make this a memorable ABC,” said Monita Fontaine, NMMA vice president of government relations.

Senator Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., will deliver the 2006 ABC keynote address. Among the members of Congress expected to speak during the 2006 ABC, NMMA has released the names of the following presenters:

  • House Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio
  • Senator Herb Kohl, D-Wis.
  • Senator Richard Burr, R-N.C.
  • Senator Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich.
  • Rep. Vernon Ehlers, R-Mich.
  • Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, R-Fla.
  • The conference provides manufacturing and government leaders with a forum to discuss important public policy matters and offers manufacturers an opportunity to advocate one-on-one with members of Congress on issues impacting recreational boating, according to NMMA.
