PMC expecting growth under new owners

LARGO, Fla. – The new owners of PMC North America, a national re-manufacturer of marine and non-marine powersports engines, believe the engine-rebuilding sector is on the cusp of a period of significant growth, the company reported in a recent statement.

Effective Oct. 31, 2005, Z&J Acquisitions, LLC, completed the purchase of all PMC North America assets, including patents, trademarks, servicemarks, copyrights and logos, according to new President Edwin Barr.

Barr said he moved to PMC after a successful career, recognized by the industry for implementing innovative information technology programs for Fortune 500 companies to improve planning and customer service.

“In fact, I intend to apply some of these management techniques to PMC to improve our manufacturing processes and to suggest ways dealers can improve their shop procedures for larger profits and happier customers,” said Barr.

In the future, PMC North America will add more products to underscore PMC’s reputation as a single-source supplier, he added.

To take PMC to the next level, Barr said he has identified and articulated to his senior management team three major areas of focus – earning customer trust, making sure products are ready to ship, and building cooperative relationships with dealers. He added that the new PMC North America has already changed one policy to defer charges to dealers for engine cores. Before dealers were charged for the core until it was received by PMC.

Bright future?
Barr believes the future of engine remanufacturing for recreational products is bright.

“I think there will be significant growth for at least a decade, especially in the recreational marine sector,” he commented.

Barr has been watching the marine industry for a long while as a senior manager in the insurance and banking sectors.

“What’s not to like,” said Barr. “Boomers are retiring to the water’s edge. They have time, they have money, and the water is calling.”

He added that he has also been encouraged by the NMMA’s Grow Boating Initiative.
