Florida bill would make marina development easier

TALLAHASSEE – A committee in the Florida Senate has voted in favor of a bill that would allow developers to avoid one of the many expensive hurdles faced by marine construction, NMMA reported in a recent newsletter.

Florida’s Environmental Protection Committee voted unanimously this week in favor of a bill that would allow developers to request that their project not be required to complete a “Development of Regional Impact” report.

Supporters of this bill, which include the National Marine Manufacturers Association, say it would help streamline the marina permit process.

NMMA and other marine interests coordinated in an effort to create the bill, S.B. 1020, which encourages city and county governments to develop long-range plans to ensure continued marine access.
