Economist to keynote MDRA Creative Conference

PALM BEACH, Fla. – With boat sales in the U.S. expected to show little or no growth this year, manufacturers are turning an eye toward an expanding the global marketplace in an effort to boost unit sales, according to the Marine Design Resource Alliance.

That’s why the group has chosen Jeremy Rifkin, president of the Foundation on Economic Trends and author of seventeen books on the impact of scientific and technological changes on the economy, the workforce, society, and the environment, to address marine industry executives at its Creative Conference.

Rifkin will lead a workshop on findings from his latest book, The European Dream, and address invited attendees in a second session on his best seller, The Age of Access. Rifkin has documented that the richest 20 percent of the world’s population now spends as much of their income accessing cultural experiences as they do buying manufactured goods and basic services. How that will impact boating is the focus of his address, according to the alliance.

“Mr. Rifkin has an uncanny ability to recognize new directions long before they are widely adopted in business,” said Peter Granata, president of MDRA. “The attendees should find his address stimulating to their creative minds and propel them to lead their respective teams in this global marketplace that now exists.”

The 10 annual MDRA Creative Conference will be held April 10-11 at the Breakers Resort in Palm Beach, Fla.
