Fountain on target to meet 2006 goals

WASHINGTON, N.C. – Fountain Powerboats Industries, Inc., has received record orders of nearly $17 million as a result of the 2006 Miami International Boat Show, the company said in a statement March 1.

This year’s sales eclipsed Fountain’s prior Miami boat show record, set in 2005, by approximately 40 percent. With a total order backlog now approaching $54 million, the North Carolina-based manufacturer said sales are on target for the 2006 fiscal year, which ends June 30.

“We did the largest volume ever; we’ve never had it better,” said Reggie Fountain, CEO of Fountain Powerboats.

Fountain attributes the company’s sales growth to the powerful brand image it has cultivated through 26 years of offshore racing, tournament fishing and aggressive marketing.

“Miami is the most important boat show of the year for us,” Fountain said. “I think we could achieve our sales objective of $80 million for this fiscal year without it, but it’s a heck of a lot easier when you have the Miami boat show.”

Sales at the show were well distributed among the company’s three product lines, ranging from 23 feet to 48 feet, said David Knight, Fountain’s executive vice president.

“Based on the balanced mix of boats sold at the show, we are confident our margin and profit results are on target for the rest of the year,” Knight said.

The company left the show with more than 4,500 leads that will be added to Fountain’s tracking database and distributed to its dealers worldwide.
